Adjusting the setting for the Source Monitor's slider

Is there a way for the Source Monitor's slider to automatically display the full duration of a source clip every time you open it from a timeline (with in and out points already selected), without manually resetting or extending it every time?

If I understand you correctly, you're double-clicking on the clip in a timeline and having it open in the Source Monitor, yes?

That behavior is correct by default, because you're opening up a clip with set boundaries (an In and Out point) which affect the clips on either side of it. What you're seeing is the full length of the clip based on those In and Out points, with the zoom slider set accordingly; if it was shorter clip the zoom slider would be wider.

If you want to reveal the original source clip and not worry about these restrictions then do a Match Frame (F) instead of double clicking.

The answer is essentially no, there is no way to lock that little zoom slider to always show the full, zoomed out duration.  If you happen to use timeline zoom shortcuts while in the Source this same thing can occur. There are also other times when it seems to randomly show a zoomed level, like John said, but locking it or turning it off isn't possible.

This has long been a feature request to just turn the thing off.
