Adjustment (type) layer that affects only one layer?

I have a video track in Premiere CC 2017 that has a lot of split clips. I do not want to copy the effects to each clip, I would rather use a layer above it to affect the clips with Lumetri color correction.

Is there some kind of track i can place above it so it links only to this track and does not affect my background track below it?

I know (and apologize) this is a simple question that has probably been asked a thousand times but I have not been sure how to phrase (word wise) a search for this item.

If you know of a tutorial video you can link me to explaining this I would greatly appreciate this.

An adjustment layer adjust everything below it.

One way to do what you want - select all the clips that you want to apply the common effect to (leaving those clips you do not want the common effect applied to unselected) and then Nest the clips (Menu Clip > Nest).

Once they are nested, apply the effect you wanted to apply to all those selected clips to the Nest.

Meg's got good answers.

Doing a Lumetri correction of a clip dropped directly on a sequence using the "Masted Clip" tab in the Lumetri panel means that any section of that clip used in sequences in that project will get that correction. You can re-visit this at need.

Selecting a bunch of clips either by "lassoing" contiguous clips or manually adding clips to a selection via mouse & keyboard and nesting them as MtD suggests is a great way to get a number of clips on already cut on a sequence that may be from different original clips but say shot from the same camera moments apart to look the same.

And Adjustment Layers (New Item/Adjustment Layer) dropped above a clip or series of clips are a great way to say modify a scene all together.

Slightly different uses to get the similar things done.
