Question

Adobe Character not working in Adobe Premiere

This is what I tried.

Importing a Adobe Character project  into premiere. It works at first then after I close it. It crashes all my character files.  I've tried this twice.

I tried to export to AME and the file has a black background with a MP4.

Just to confirm, are you using the latest versions of Character Animator (Beta 6), Premiere Pro (CC 2017, version 11.1.2), and Adobe Media Encoder (CC 2017, version 11.0.2)? Are you on Mac or Windows?

Could you try the following:

1. Close all Adobe applications, then wait approximately 30 seconds until the last Adobe application is quit.

2. Launch Character Animator first, then Premiere Pro or Adobe Media Encoder.

If that allows the imported Character Animator projects/scenes to be used in Premiere Pro & Adobe Media Encoder, great.

If not, try restarting your machine, then repeating step 2.

If it's still crashing and you're on a Mac, did you get an Adobe Crash Reporter window that appeared? If so, could you submit a report? Also, please look in the /Users/<yourusername>/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ folder for a .crash file that corresponds to the application and date/time when the crash occurred, and share a link (via Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) to us so that we can diagnose the issue?

If it's crashing with a specific error message, please let us know here as well.

As for the export to AME showing a black background... the scene in Character Animator will send alpha (and the background of the scene will render as black unless an opaque color is there), so if you want a different colored background, you'll need to include it as a separate layer in your scene. It can be a simple one-layered PSD or AI file that you import, then arrange in the scene behind your puppet.

Hope that helps.

Windows- All of the upates are current. CC 2017.

Yes, this has been done.

*I can import Ch project into premiere and it works but then I close the

file and come back the next day all ch proj files go offline in premiere.

I've done this two times. *

  • I'm on windows.*

*At this point, I can't use Ch in premiere and I my production is shut

down unless I can make this work. *

As for the export to AME showing a black background... the scene in

*I use a transparent color background on my ch and AME compresses to a mp4,

there's a black backgroud and that makes the scene unusable. Using the

project file, I have put psd's behind the character with new scenes. ( but

then the files go offline) *

Thanks for the additional details. Some additional questions:

-- What's the folder location for the Ch project? Is it something like "C:\Users\<yourusername>\Documents\Adobe\Character Animator\Beta\<projectname>" or something different?

-- Is that project folder located on a local drive or on a server?

-- Is that project folder being actively backed up (e.g., CrashPlan or similar), synced (e.g., Dropbox or Google Drive), or virus-checked? If so, if you temporarily disable the backup/sync/virus-checking or exclude the Ch project folder from those operations, does the problem still occur?

-- How are you importing the Ch project into Pr? Is Ch running at the time, and you're just dragging the Ch scene into the Pr Project panel? Is Ch not running, and you're selecting the .chproj file from Pr's Import dialog box? or some other way?

-- When Pr reopens the project containing the Ch project/scene for the first time (after restarting the machine), it needs to launch the background Ch process. I'm wondering if that is just taking quite a long time for some reason. I'm assuming you're seeing the Media Offline footage, and it never automatically shows the correct content even after a minute of waiting?

Thanks.
