Adobe Premiere using 100% CPU in background

Hi Everyone!

Some weeks ago I started experiencing an extremely accused drop on my computer´s performance. The computer just freezed and the mouse was just able to move a couple of seconds and then freezes again. At the beginning I thougt it was a Windows problem, because the only solution was a hard shutdown.

Finally (and with lots of patience) I could manage to open the Task-Manager and then I saw that Premiere Pro was using 100% of the CPU even with simple projects and specially when I was doing other stuff like browsing the internet, mailing, etc.

It happens almost everytime I use Premiere.

Does anybody know where could this problem be? Thank you very much!

Hi olafs61375639,

Have you tried the same project in the latest version of Premiere Pro CC(12.0)? Please let us know the status.

Thanks,

Vidya.

Hi Vidya,

Yes I did update Premiere to the latest version, but sadly I´m having a lot of more problems now. The software is extreme unstable, and I´m barely able to edit simple sequences without issues. Sometimes the monitors (both viewer und canvas) go black, or it just freezes. Not to mention everytime I render I keep my fingers crossed hoping it ends succesfully. I´ve tried disabling CUDA Acceleration and optimizing the projects but I don´t really know where the problem is.

However I´ve worked the past 5-6 years with Premiere Pro in Mac and never had a problem, or at least no so frequently, even with a less powerful computer. With this one I have errors every single day. Anyway I hope a future update solves some of them. Nevertheless if anyone has any advice, please, let me know.

Thanks,

Joseph

Any Multicam sequences in use here?

No. I'm not sure if the complexity of the project has a role in the problem. Maybe it does, but in my case I was just starting a project, so it barely had a video and a couple of audio tracks. I could understand that the computer gets slow when I'm editing a bigger project with severals 4K RAW video tracks and 6 or 8 audio lines, but the point is, the computer lags while doing nothing and ironically is able to manage such projects with no sweat.

OK.

At this point, Step 4d below comes to mind.
