Anamorphic ratio defaulting to regular pixel aspect ratio every time I shut off premiere???? WTH?

Hey everyone,

Has anyone else been dealing with this annoying issue in Premiere Pro? Every time I shut down and reopen Premiere, my anamorphic ratio resets to the regular pixel aspect ratio by default. I’ve been setting it to anamorphic during my session, but no matter what, it always reverts back when I launch the program again.

It’s seriously messing with my workflow, especially when I’m working on projects that require precise aspect ratios. I don’t want to keep manually adjusting it every time I open the program.

Has anyone found a fix or workaround for this? Or is this just a bug that Adobe still hasn’t addressed?

Would love to hear if anyone else is experiencing this and if you’ve managed to fix it. Thanks!

PS: I think I will finally switch to DaVinci this year.

I've never had that happen. And yes it would be way past annoying.

But all troubleshooting takes data. OS/CPU/RAM/GPU, the exact numbered version of Premiere like 25.1.0, the media in use, and whether local or network storage. To begin with.

You import the media, and set the aspect ratio ... in the bin, or by sequence settings? Exact steps.

Thank you for your feedback.

MacBook Pro M4 48GB, Sequoia 15.2, 14-core CPU, 20-core GPU. Premiere Pro 25.1.0.

Data stored in Samsung T7 Shield SSD. I import the media and change the aspect ratio in the bin, not in the sequence settings as I mix this footage with non-anamorphic material.

Ok, that T7 is an external ... I wonder about the 'reference' and cache files somehow being an issue. As with external drives, if they are set even slightly differently by the OS on startup, Premiere can get confused. And this can result in mixed/odd behavior, in my experience.

What is the pixel aspect ratio (PAR) of your source footage and what is the PAR of your Sequence?

For source footage, this only changes if modified by the user in the Interpret Footage settings.

For Sequences, this only changes if  modified in the Sequence settings.

This is not normal and when Premiere Pro behaves odd the best bet is often to reset the Preferences.

Launch Premiere Pro while holding down the Shift-key. This will give you the Reset options dialog. Check the Reset app preferences in that dialog and click Continue.

How does it work now, do Premiere Pro still revert your footage to a PAR of 1.0?
