Question

Artifacts exporting 4K with Optical Flow

Hello,

I noticed artefacts when exporting in H.264 or 265 especially on the right vertical side. After days of problem shooting, I found out that it has nothing to do with the export codec or the grafic card, because it only occures with clips that have a different aspect ratio than the scene and optical flow is chosen in the export settings. After scaleing the clips so that the black bars disapear, the problem is gone.

My question now is, what is the difference between using optical flow in the xport settings and in the clips? I believe if I use it in export settings, it is used for the whole export. But for what is then this function on clip level?

Regards,

Claus

Optical flow is a scaling or frame replacement/creation function, so it's only 'working' when there's a frame being rebuilt. That's why it only affects certain of your clips.

It's one of several options to do that task, and depending on how they turn out, the other options may be better in any one clip. One is advised to try the various frame-rebuilding options as they each have clips where they work well, and other clips ... where they don't.
