Audio and video are not synced

Hello! I'm writing because I recently had a problem that I never experienced before.

I recorded a video with my tablet (iPad mini), then moved it to my PC, and when I imported that file to Premiere, the audio was playing at completely different moments than the video! I double-checked viewing the video from other media players and they all play it perfectly in sync!

Help!!! What just happened? I tried changing sequence settings manually but it has the same problem! Even the video preview plays out of sync when I play it individually.

I use Premiere Pro CS6.

BTW, I would also like to know if something might be wrong with my computer, because I usually record the audio at the same time in Audition with a special microphone (of course the tablet still has its own microphone, but I like better quality... So I'm recording audio "twice"), and when I used to import the audio file to Premiere it matched perfectly. But now I experience a progressive delay (it starts synced but after a few minutes it has a few seconds of delay). What could that possibly be? Let me know if it's a codec issue (though I just reinstalled some codecs and it still has the problem), or something else.

Thank you!

Hello,

I don't see that option anywhere in my Preferences... Is there another option that could possibly mean the same?

You wont see that option (the H.264 acceleration) as CS6 does not have that option.

Do as suggested in option 2 in post 1.

Convert to constant framerate (not bitrate).

That will solve your issue.

Here another reason why the audio is out of sync with the video after importing it.

  • The video frame rate is variable (VFR). A VFR video is usually found when doing a screen capture record on your desktop or even in your mobile device, and some other devices that record video also use VFR. The reason is to save disk space, so the framerate adjusts throughout the video length. Premiere Pro CS6 will open a VFR video, but if the video file size is large (means video is long), then over the length of the video the audio gets out of sync on the time-line because of VFR.

To fix this issue is to convert the video to a constant frame rate (CFR) before importing to Premiere Pro.

One easy way is use HandBrake, which does a very good job. When you open the video in HandBrake, go to the "video" tab and click the "Constant Framerate" radio button. Make any other settings you want and click the green "Start Encode" button at the top. The great thing about HandBrake is does reduce the video size (compression), especially video files created from screen records.

VFR Support in Premier Pro CC

Premiere Pro CC does provide VFR tools and support, where as older versions (especially CS6) did not, but I hear this feature does not work well all the time in the CC version.

Hi Ninocantando,

1. Is this happening with all files recorded in iPad mini?

2. Just for test, transcode the Video file in https://handbrake.fr/, import the file into Premiere Pro & test the sync.

3. What is the file format, Video codec of the Video file?

4. What is the Windows OS version number?

Thanks,

Vidya Sagar.

Hello! Thanks for such quick reply

1. No! It has only happened with this file (though the last thing I said about syncing wuth an external mic has happened to me since like a week or two ago)

2. Gotcha, will do and let you know!

3. It's a .MOV file, the Video codec is H264-MPEG4-AVC (that's what VLC player said, haha).

4. Windows 10 Home, 64-bit.

Hope you can help me out solving this issue... Just tried Movie Maker to see if it changed the syncing too but no, everything seems to be normal... Only Premiere damages it

YES THANK YOU!!! You're a master!

I still want to know why this happened only in Premiere, and not in Movie Maker or any of the players... That way I can prevent it from happening in the future
