Audio repeating in video file upon import

New Here ,
May 09, 2025 May 09, 2025

I've repeatedly encountered a bug that is causing me some significant issues. I am running Premiere 25.2.3 (Build 4). I first noticed this issue last fall and hoped that subsequent updates would fix it, but that apparently hasn't happened, so I am reporting it here.

I use Premiere to stitch together video files of oral history interviews. The editing that I do is usually very rudimentary, mostly involving using the razor tool to cut out pieces of an interview that we do not want included in the final access copy. I've successfully used Premiere to do this for many years.

The problem that I'm now facing is that this version of Premiere sometimes repeats pieces of the audio track underneath the video file. In the example that I've encountered today, the first 13 minutes of the file play as expected, but at timestamp 0:13:01 the very beginning of the audio track starts to repeat underneath the video file and it continues as such for the remainder of the file. I've checked the original file and the problem is not with the recording itself. When I import the file into Premiere and then preview it within the software, the error appears. The error then persists in the derivative after export out of Premiere.

See timestamp 0:13:01 here for evidence of this problem.

Hello @chris.petersen_osu,

Thanks for the message. I can see what you're talking about from your video, and I'm glad to hear the original media isn't damaged. That's always a relief. Does it still happen if you delete that clip from Premiere, clear the cache, and reimport the media?

Can you provide more information on your system specs? What are the specs of the media files? This is a difficult problem to edit though. I hope we can help you soon.

Thanks very much, Rach. I really appreciate your quick and helpful reply.

I'm glad to say that the solution that you proposed seems to have fixed the problem with both the current file as well as the one last Fall. I'll plan to clear the cache as part of my normal workflow going forward.

In case its helpful to others who might come across this thread, the original files were .mts format, 1440x1090, 29.97 fps, as collected by Vixia cameras.
