Audio track mix down in export panel?

Hi and apologies if this has already been solved, please redirect me to the answer if already existing.

We use Premiere Pro for news and for archival reasons we need to export our stories with split audio channels, CH1 with voiceover and CH2 for effects+music. To do this we pan track1 to left and track2 to right. All good with that. However, when we deliver these we need to create a stereo file with mixed tracks. Is it possible to do these in the export panel (to maximise timing)?

The solution we have now is to nest the dual mono sequence into a stereo centered-pan sequence. Is there a faster way to select between the two options?

Thanks,

Hello and very sorry for the delay!

That definitely solves one part of the problem, I can export separate VO and FX channels.

However, if I want to create a 2ch stereo mix, I still won't be able to do it from the export panel, correct?

Thanks for your help,

What I would do is go back and change the channel patching on the tracks -- you can do this right in the Track Mixer. Set all your tracks to output to channels 1 and 2 and then on Export just output 2 channels instead of 4. That should get you a stereo mix.

I would start using multichannel sequences. You have to set this up when you create the sequence (you can't change it later). Go into the audio tracks tab when creating a new sequence and make 4 channels. Set your VO tracks to channel 1+2 and the music+FX to 3+4 (you can also do this at will in the Track Mixer). Make sure you keep the elements on the correct tracks when you edit. Then when you export you can hit the + key in the Audio section to add a second channel output (1-2 and 3-4). That will give you two separate stereo tracks with isolated VO and Music+FX (no panning needed). Then for the stereo mix just export in stereo instead of split channels. LMK if you need to see screenshots or a screen recording to see the process.

Hi John and thank you for that.

That was an option I thought about it, however I wasn't able to add the second channel output. Now I realise that depends on the chosen export format. While Quicktime allows you to do that, MXF (the format we are asked to deliver to, with XDCAM codec) does not. So I guess I have to resort to modify audio channel outputs before the export panel?

Hi there,

Are you using the latest version of Premiere Pro? I'm on 15.4.1 and when I select Export and choose MXF OP1a, I see channel export options (there's no plus sign like there is with Quicktime but there is a channel dropdown). Make sure you set up your sequence correctly -- here are screenshost of my Multichannel sequence audio settings, Video export settings and Audio export settings. The resulting clip had 4 tracks with VO and MX separated.
