Question

Audio/video sync issues

I tracked and mixed a drum playthrough for a drummer and we video-ed the process with a phone (samsung s22 ultra), which obviously has VFR.
When I sync the mixdown audio with video in Adobe Premiere or Davinci Resolve, it is spot on. Inside those projects it is synced without issues. However, once I export it and upload to Youtube I get visible out of sync result there, nothing like how it flows in the video editing software.
I exported the audio (through Studio One to 44.1khz 16bit) the way I would export my final audio mix for master.

Try recompressing to CFR Prores with Apple Compressor, this seems to do the job better thatn adobe media encoder for iphone clips.

Hi,

The issue likely comes from the Variable Frame Rate (VFR) footage from your phone. While it looks fine in Premiere or Resolve, VFR can cause desync issues after export, especially on platforms like YouTube.

Try these steps:

  1. Convert to Constant Frame Rate (CFR): Use tools like HandBrake to convert the video before importing.
  2. Match Audio to 48kHz: Export your audio at 48kHz, 16-bit, as YouTube prefers this over 44.1kHz.
  3. Check Export Settings: Ensure frame rates and codecs match YouTube’s recommendations.

Let me know how it goes!

I create what you see & hear.

I tried with the handbreak a few days ago. I encoded the video to cfr and I even removed the original (phone) sound out of it. However, the only thing I accomplished is that the audio issue now became constant - ie it is equally delayed after the upload to youtube

Just to clarify, when you export the video from Premiere Pro and play it on a video player (in Windows or Mac) before uploading to YouTube, does it work fine without any delayed or out-of-sync audio?

Yes, on my computer (win) it plays fine. As soon as it is uploaded on youtube, it goes out of sync.

Hi damir_9980,

Sorry for the issue. Please try transcoding your VFR media using Handbrake (https://adobe.ly/3Z5ofAq) and replacing your project's source files. Let us know if the exported media plays back correctly.

Thanks,

Ishan
