Autosave makes premiere crash

windows 11. I've disabled all 3rd party plugins.  Autosave runs and then premiere crashes. Sometimes it hangs, sometimes it just disappears.
Currently updating to the 24.6.3 (despite confusingly telling me that doing so would switch off the auto update, which is apparently off anyway, because otherwise it would have updated).  But I have zero expectation of this working because it's been doing this for well over a year. It's just got a lot worse.  

Adobe do you use your products on windows pc's?  I just finished editing a project on a mabook. Huge project, took weeks, I think i had 2 crashes the whole time. Editing on a PC, I'll often have 2 crashes an hour.

Confirming: 100% of the time, auto-save either crashes or hangs PPro? 
Where is PPro auto-saving those projects; local volume? network volume? If network, how is that storage mounted?
