Best way to split a video into multiple files?

Adobe Employee ,

Hello.

I've read up on splitting a video into clips, but my understanding is that this does not create separate files from the original file. Is there a preferred way to create separate files from an original file, with the separations specified via the use of clips?

Cutting a clip in the timeline produces no hard copies on the hard drive.

You can make sub clips but they do not make hard copies either.

You can export those subclips.

Do not understand your second sentence.

Premiere's editing process is "non-destructive" meaning it does not rewrite original media. All your changes are merely metadata stored in the program and it's cache files for that project. If you start with a long clip, and want to have just parts of it, and want to have those as separate files, you have to select the sections you want and do an Export process.

I'm not sure why one would do that very often. Unless you wanted to say discard 40 minutes of a 75 minute video to save space perhaps.

There are some utility apps that can be acquired online that do muxing I think it's called, that can separate out sections at least close to your "cut" requests. Intraframe media can be cut at any frame, interframe (due to the compression style) is more difficult.

The biggest issue is with text-editing. You can not bulk delete filter words and pauses in the source clip, nor can you mergen and split text-segments in a sequence. The only workaround for me so far is to sufficiently large segments (like around 1h, the original footage is 4h), then reimport, transcribe, text-based removal or filterwords etc, then rearrange the due to the filter word removal messed up transcription segments.
