Best workflow - iPhone 6S + Filmic Pro + Premiere Pro CC

I need tips: Shot some footage on an iPhone 6S using the app Filmic Pro. Need to import it into Adobe Premiere Pro CC; looking for the best "sequence presets." And does it even matter?


Also, any tips for an entire workflow (including export settings). I know this is probably findable somewhere in the forum, but I'm new here and appreciate any links/starting places. Thanks guys!

    I have discovered the solution!

    We came back from shooting to the same problem. Plays fine in quicktime, but won't import to premiere or transcode in AME.

    The issue seems to be that Filmic Pro natively defaults to recording audio as 48khz aiff. This doesn't play nicely with the mp4 stream produced by the app (don't know why!). However, if you set the audio within Filmic pro to record as a 44.1 khz pcm stream (in the audio settings), all is solved and the audio comes through fine.

    Obviously this is no good if you have already shot the material. We've had to export the audio separately and re-synch in premiere pro to the picture to solve it for this one. But the next one should now work fine.

      Did you shoot in variable frame rate or constant frame rate mode? If it's variable, you'll have to transcode using Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip, etc. first.

      It won't matter, just drag a clip onto the New Item button in the Project panel.

      any tips for an entire workflow (including export settings).

      Export settings will vary, according to your needs. Is it YouTube? Blu-ray? What?

      Hopefully, we'll hear from others using Filmic Pro. You might try a search near the top of the page to get more results.

      I have had fine results with Filmic Pro + iPhone + Premiere Pro CC. Importing files directly from the camera roll sometimes yield a "file has no audio or video streams". I bring a set of clips into the iMovie app, export that to the camera roll, and import that file to Premiere. Once in Premiere, you should be able to use the file in any type of sequence, with the priority being how you are delivering the final product. This works best with the iPhone stabilized, avoiding quick or shaky movement, and good lighting. I've used static building exteriors shot in strong daylight right next to footage from a C100, it looks great. The best camera is the one in your pocket, as the saying goes.

      Hi Rob,

      Some users on this forum are not fans of mobile phone video. Sorry. Regarding the use of Filmic Pro, from their site:

      FiLMiC Pro is the 2x Video Camera App of the Year that beat the $5000 Sony FS100 and tied the $13,000 Canon C300 in blind audience testing at the Zacuto: Revenge of the Great Camera Shoot Out.

      That's pretty impressive, IMO.

      Many people find great uses for mobile video and Premiere Pro should handle it just fan should the video be be acquired properly. Mobile phones need to capture video with a constant frame rate, not a variable rate. If you do not capture with a constant rate, you'll have to lose a generation through transcoding. Perhaps you already are aware of that, but it's the #1 thing that goes wrong with Premiere Pro workflow.

      Since you mentioned iMovie, one can assume that you have a Mac. Transcoding the movie through iMovie creates a constant frame rate video file, that's why it may be working better in Premiere Pro. It sounds like you are capturing using Filmic Pro using a variable frame rate. Can you double check that? If you are not, there's no reason why you should be using the iMovie step. I use Image Capture to get my iPhone .mov files to my Mac HD, then import them to Premiere Pro.

      I have heard that footage stabilized in camera is one thing that causes variable frame rates, as well, so you will want to check that. Perhaps you're better off with sticks or stabilization device.

        hi Kevin

        I'm importing .mov into Premier Pro, and is comes in with no audio. Files imported via iTunes. Frame rate 25.   Importing via Image Capture fixes this?

        Anyone tried "Export media" from within Premiere to convert MOV to MPEG4 to get the audio?

        found this How to export .mp4 to .mov format with 4K to 4K resolution In premiere pro cc 2015 - YouTube ,  hasn't worked for me yet, but might try again in case I missed some setting somewhere.

        I would recommend two possible adjustments to your formula.

        Proper video camera - Filmic Pro + Premiere Pro

        Or...

        Phone video + Filmic Pro + Consumer Editor

        Either is likely to work better than your original formula.

        Use the NEW ITEM process to match your sequence to your video

        -including a link to learn about the NEW ITEM process, with a picture in the link to show you what to do

        You also MAY have a problem editing anything from an iPhone

        Some people find that Apple video (iphone etc) won't edit easily because it uses a variable frame rate
