Question

Big difference between source and export video colors

Hello everyone.

I have been using Premiere for some years, and I just started using the 22.2 version. I applied a default LUT, made small changes, but the Output result that is shown in the Export window is completely different from the source. I didn't changed any setting from default, I basically downloaded the software from Creative Cloud, made a small edit and tried to export, noticing the issue. If I select the "Match Sequence Settings", the output is a perfect match from the source, but this is not a fix since I want to be able to modify my output settings without some random colors being applied over my project.

Anyone experiencing something similar that could help me?

I upload three screenshots: One of the Source window, one of the output window matching the sequence settings and one with a H264 setting, where the color difference happens. No LUT or any effects are applied in the export settings.

So I just read this article about the new v22 color management for H.264 and HEVC, and saw the I can change it back to Rec.709. Applying Rec.709 to both the sequence setting and my source media fixed the issue for me. The step by step can be found here.

Glad you found your answer. I suspected you were shooting with something like an iPhone set to HDR, that's why I asked about the source of your footage.

"Match sequence settings" doesn't apply any color changes, that only deals with frame-rate/size and audio type/channel issues.

You mention you apply a default LUT, which one? What is the original clip? Is it a log-encoded clip? Is it phone media?

And what's the color space of the clip ... is it Rec.709 or HLG? You can check the clip properties in the Project panel, right-click the clip and select Properties, and get that information.

My issue was related with the Rec.709/HLG feature, thank you. Not a bug, just a new feature I didn't knew about!

What type of footage are you working with? What camera and such?

It was a HEVC file from a iPhone 13. Now I know my problem was related to the new HLG feature. Thank you, anyway!
