Camcorder DV input not recognized in premier 14

Finally got a DV Camcorder to transfer all my mini DV tapes to my computer for editing. Bought a new firewire card to connect the camera to the computer, installed the driver, (a generic one shows up in the device manager), but the program can't see the camcorder. Would it be the wrong driver perhaps . The program should see the camcorder when its turned on. Running Windows 10, audible confirmation when firewire cable connected to camera. I have version 14 and it can't see ther camcorder. Also windows will not load the legacy driver that is on the cd the came with the card but default it the generic version. Could this be the problem?

Suggestions appreciated.

If you already have made sure that the settings in the Capture panel in Premiere Pro is set to DV i would skip Premiere Pro and download the free ScenalyzerLIVE and use that to capture.

ScenalyzerLIVE is superiour to Premiere Pro when it comes to capture DV.

have not been able to change any settings. only clicked on the "add media", the selecting "videos from cameras and devices". I then get a message "no supported sevice detected. IO have tryied a 4-4 and a 4-6 firewire cable from my card and both give not responce past the connected beep. (even then does not show up in the "This PC list."

Tried to install the legacy driver that came with the card anddoes not show up in the Device Manager. Remians on defaut driver.

Just tried the suggested program but file is corrupt and won't load after un-zipping. Also from edit- preferences- Device control, no devise listed, only pre-roll and timecode boxes

I have version 14

Does this mean that you have Premiere Elements 14 or Premiere Pro 14?

I can download the file and unpack it without problems. 🙂

You got me a little lost here, where do you find "add media" and "videos from cameras and devices"? To capture in Premiere Pro you must go to Windows > Capture.

Regarding drivers:

  1. Open the Device Manager and then locate the FireWire card.
  2. Right click on it and select Update Driver.
  3. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software"
  4. In the new dialog, click on "Let me pick from a list of aviable..."
  5. Select the Legacy driver there and click Next till you exit out from the dialog.
  6. Restart the computer.

If you cannot find the Legacy driver there, click on Have Disk and locate the Legacy driver from either the installation CD that came with the card or to the folder where you unpacked the Legacy driver.

Add Media sound like Elements.

If its Elements 14 TS is out of luck. Elements dropped the capture feature as of version 13.
