Can I apply the warp stabilizer to just a section of a clip?

I have a clip thats about 1 minute long, but there's only about 5 seconds of the clip that would need to be stabilized. Is there a way to apply the stabilizer effect to just those specific 5 seconds? I did some googling and it mentioned using keyframes to apply effects to portions of a clip, but I'm not sure if those directions apply to this effect. It mentions using the effect on/off toggle and the add keyframe button - neither of those appear under the warp effect.

Apologies if i am asking a very basic question - i'm new to editing videos, and even newer to using premier.

    I've used Warp Stabilizer quite a bit... but at the same time I don't claim to be an expert. You can do what Neil instructs which I've done before but not without having to deal with the transition to/from the stablized clip.

    Using Warp Stablizer requires the effect to use cropping/scaling and other things to smooth out the stabilize things. There's ultimately going to be scaling applied and it will not usually match the clips before/after that you've cut away. You can experiment yourself. So you're then stuck with getting into and out of the stabilized portion in an aesthetically pleasing manner. I usually do one of the following...

    • Apply WS to the entire clip, live with the perf/rendering time hit. This is what I do most of the time... but rendering those sections ahead of time is easy and makes it work and I can export completed sequences that are settled so I don't have to process WS each export of my main timeline. This is what I do most of the time.
    • Apply WS to a trimmed away section, and then provide aesthetically pleasing transition into and out of the WS clip. This is more difficult but not too much... it can work... for example, I was panning a shot from one place to another but it crossed a dark portion of the scene (a chair) which was a convenient time to crossfade to the WS clip... this was seamless as the viewer doesn't see the transition.
    • Manually provide directly non-WS scaling/rotation to the surrounding clips. I rarely do this... every time I mess with this for a while, I just rejoin my clips and apply WS to the whole mess (first bullet above).

    Thanks for the advice from everyone. I guess for now since it's just a 1 minute clip i'll just let it run against the whole clip.

    Like Neil says cut the clip

    Apply WS to the section you want to stabilize.

    After its done read the auto scale percentage and apply that to the scale of the non warped part(s).

    might need to adjust position of the clip(s) within the frame to match.

    I have found it is usually not that easy to get a match. WS does more than scale and position ... such as rotation as well... so I've personally found it's often not that simple. The best match is not to have to match at all... if you do otherwise you can judge and fix he aesthetic results as you see fit. Mileage may vary I just wanted to give a heads up as I've been using WS quite a bit lately.

    Nope. But it's not a problem.

    First use either the "razor" tool (C) or the cut tool (Ctrl-K), to separate the section that needs stabilizing on your timeline. For the razor, you need to click where you want the cut, for the cut tool, park the playhead (or CTI) at the spot you want to cut, then just Ctrl-K makes the cut there.

    Make cuts both ends, then apply WS.
