Can't access old DV files after upgrade. Help?

I have a project with old DV files from 10 years ago.  I upgraded to Premiere 12 and it will no longer accept the files.  Any ideas?

Your can read the fourcc with Mediainfo, GSpot, or similar. Your post reminded me that I found an issue with my old DV files I had backed up on disks. May decide to recapture from the tapes, which I still have, but some are edited movies that I'd like to recover.

So, in my case, the files show a fourCC of DVSD, which was a Pinnacle codec. The notes at fourcc.org say Microsoft dropped support for the various DV options after standard fourcc's were defined.

I found one successful conversion using virtualdub, but can't find my notes!

Anyway, this example may point you in a direction.

Are they QuickTime or AVI files?

That could be a problem.  Support for 32 bit QuickTime is ending.  You might find a way to convert them to .avi files instead.

its probably just some ancient dv codec. you can get the fourcc codec value from a free fourcc reader program and then google what the 4 letters are in a  specific codec download.
