Can't adjust audio fades to less than one video frame if I'm not in audio time units display

I used to be able to make micro audio fades quickly and easily - fade ins and outs that were less than one video frame in length. Now, with some new update, the only way I can do those micro fades is if I switch to audio time units in the timeline settings. Otherwise it only lets me audio fade by video frame intervals. Is there a way to fix this?
