Can't Remove Pauses in Transcription Panel (button grey)

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble removing pauses in the transcription panel in Adobe Premiere Pro. I’ve highlighted the pauses in the transcript, but it won’t let me delete them. I’ve tried disabling the "Pauses" feature and making edits directly on the timeline, but nothing seems to work. The delete button is grey, can't select it.

Here’s a bit more info:

  • I’m using the latest version of Premiere Pro.
  • I’m working on a podcast episode, so there are lots of pauses I’d like to eliminate to streamline the edit.

Has anyone else encountered this issue, or does anyone know a workaround? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    It sounds like you might be viewing the Source Monitor transcript, which doesn’t allow editing. Try clicking on your timeline to switch focus, and then return to the Text panel. This should enable the Delete Pauses button.

    I had same problem and I realize what was happening.

     

    1. You must open Text Panel and check if the transcription is already doing automatically

    2. If it doesnt, go to preferences panel, select "Transcription" and check "Automatic Transcription", after that, select the language y press "Accept" or "Apply"

    When you go back to text panel, your transcription would already begin.

    I have the same problem and tried to do what you have suggested. It´s not working. Delete button still grey. I use v 25.1 for Windows.

      A screenshot might help. There are 2 reasons this won't work.

       

      1 - You are in source monitor view rather than program monitor view. As @PaulMurphy explained, you cannot delete pauses (or filler words) in source view.  You can edit text and speakers in source view. To determine the view you are in, look at the bottom left of the Transcript tab.

       

      2 - You have a static, sequence transcript. If you do, you can filter by pauses and you will see them (and "pauses" greyed out in the search box), but the delete button is greyed out because you cannot edit them in a static transcript. Paul describes how to re-transcribe using the 3 dot menu to "Generate Text-Based Editing Transcript."
