Cannot export from Premiere Pro to Media Encoder

When I go to export a Premiere Pro project, if I send it to Media Encoder, the encoding is failing every time with this note:

"Could not create output. Please check to see if the output is read only or locked."

It is exporting to an external hard drive. The drive is not read only or locked.

I'm rendering with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration.

There is space on the hard drive.

I CAN export directly from Premiere and the project exports and saves just fine. This is only an issue when I try to export via Media Encoder.

I have disabled "Import Sequences Natively"

I have turned off and disconnected my hard drive and reconnected it.

I uninstalled ME and reinstalled it.

Nothing is working. I'm going crazy.

Kevin,

Great question:

2020 iMac

OS Ventura 13.5

Hi,

Try the Privacy and Security options in System Preferences. Make sure Media Encoder has full disk access and Files & Folders. See if that works for you, @Domeny Creative.

Thanks,

Kevin

Like others, my first thought was permissions on the external drive. Might be worth a 'get info' in finder to check. Also wondered if you are trying to overwrite a file that is in use - either in a media player or inside of Premiere.

Can you export to another location from ME? Did you try to remount the external drive and/or restart computer? Hope you get it sorted.

Hi!
Thank you for jumping in. I did find the problem with another user's help, but not before I needed to export a bunch of projects in one day. Your suggestion to try to export to another location saved that day. So thank you!

Hi @Domeny Creative,

I read your note with interest. Sounds like a permissions issue for your external HD. Can we get more details? FAQ: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/faq-what-information-should-i-provide-when-asking-a-question-on-this-forum/td-p/3929027. I hope we can help.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin!

Thank you for your reply. I have been exporting to this same external HD for two years. I haven't changed any settings. This just started happening out of nowhere.  And, as I said, there's no issue if I export directly from Premiere. It's only a problem with encoding in ME. So I just don't think it's a HD issue. I think the program thinks it's a HD issue. But I don't think it is in reality.
hence why I'm lost.
Any other solutions?

Thank you for you time and expertise.

Any system details, Kelsey? Is this a Mac or PC, for example? Which OS?

Thanks,
Kevin
