Hello everyone,
I cannot import an avi project in the last 2 updates of Adobe
Premiere, but in version 24.1 I can do that without any problems, on my laptop I have the same problems, I have already installed that (24.3) update twice and I always have that problem, I go back to the older version 24.1 and everything works perfect,
I capture the avi video with BlackMagic intensity pro 4k.
mp4, Mov, Mts, Mpeg files ETC. Works perfectly
Where is the error, or is it a bug?
Kind regards

How are you importing it, and what, exactly, happens?
Is there an error message?

Thanks for the answer, there will be spelling errors in the explanation I gave, but I speak little English, so I translate my language (Dutch) into English
No, there is no error message, importing AVI video does not work in the latest update of Adobe Premiere, it just stands still, I then went back to the previous version and then it works as always.
I have the same problems on my laptop, which is why I deduce that there is a bug in the latest version
the avi video is captured via a Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4k card, and in media Express software, and the settings are 1080i avi motion jpeg (see print screen)

also in addition to the previous explanation
Mts, Mp4, Mov, etc. filles work anyway, and that's strange, but apparently Avi filles don't work anymore

I would try to re-install Blackmagic Design Desktop Video 12.8.1 that you can download from Blackmagic Design here: Support Center | Blackmagic Design
The file you have is using the MotionJPEG codec from Blackmagic Design, so re-installing may fix the issue.
Try it and report back! 🙂

It is already the last version of Blackmagic design that I use
I don't think that's the reason, but thank you anyway

Ok, but the point was to re-install it so Premiere Pro finds the codec needed to import those MJPEG-files in case something happened when you upgraded Premiere Pro.

I have done a complete re-install of Blackmagic Design's latest version, it now takes about 4 minutes before the Avi file is imported into Premiere, in the previous version this took a few seconds, and
I still have to be careful that Premiere does not crash, once those operations are done it seems to work, I also thought about converting the Avi files into Mp4 files, then I have no problem at all,
just a little conversion work.
Thanks for the effort

I have been struggling for a week as well. Reinstalls, codec checks, cleaning my computer etc. etc.. turning out that newer versions of 23 and 24 contain some error causing problems importing AVI.
Now installer 23.6.0 (because I need to be able to capture videos) and 24.1.0 (for newer features). Those work perfectly again.
Hopefully soon a fix is found and released.

This same problem is happening for me in Media Encoder, Premeire and even in After Effects where I can render an AVI file out but can't import any in. It just hangs on the import progress window in every program.
I did what Esther recommended and rolled back all the way to version 23.6 in all three programs and they can now import AVI files again.
