Hi Trent

The import of XF705 HVEC files to Premiere v14 works great, thanks. But the lag when reviewing the files is terrible. I'm enabling proxy files, reducing the playback resolution etc and it's still no good. Really bad lagging and frame dropping while just reviewing.

Any ideas on the settings to improve this? Cheers

I'm running:

iMac Pro 2017

3 GHz Intel Xeon

64GB 2666 MHz DDR4

Graphics - Radeon Pro Vega 64 16368mb

2TB SSD

Hi Kudos111,

Try this troubleshooting step: no harm, no foul. Good general purpose thing to do for Mac: https://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2014/09/10/premiere-pro-cc-freezing-on-startup-or-crashing-while-working-mac-os-x-10-9-and-later/

Let me know if it worked.

Thanks!
Kevin

Finally! Has anyone tried this out yet? And can anyone upload test footage from XF705 for others to try out please? Thanks in advance.

It's grim at present... I've got a decent editing PC and you can't edit with it (works perfectly on resolve).. Tried with proxies.. All good until you render.. 5hrs instead of 20 minutes!

UGH, Sam, sorry to hear that. Ive heard it is a beast to edit. Just to make sure I understand, all else being the same, Resolve is handling hevc much better huh? do you use resolve for end to end editing and delivery? Thanks for sharing, you are helping me out big time!

Adobe - If there's an issue just let people know otherwise you just look incompetent..   really incompetent...

Canon XF-HEVC support did not make it into 13.1.4 either, just had to pay out 1200 pounds for a Atomos Ninja 5 setup, not impressed with Canon or Adobe.

Hi all. Has this issue been resolved? I just shot footage this past weekend with this camera not realizing that there would be an issue importing the footage. I’ll have to start a subscription but I don’t want to waste $$ doing that if it still doesn’t import.

I shot it as 1080, not 4K. (I just want to make sure it will import before I bother to pay for the subscription.)

Thx for confirming.

There is fix that I’m aware of. Only thing that works for us is shooting with a Ninja or some other external recorder.

July 14 2019. Just updated to Premiere 13.1.3. Still no support for this codec. —! I will switch to Resolve if this hasn't been fixed by Labor Day. I've had this camera since it debuted and assumed there'd be support within a few weeks. It's been 9 months. Unbelievable.

Today's update allows all XF705 formats -- including the 4K XF HEVC!   (at least it does for me )  I hope it works for all!

I just tried After Effects (I'm on a PC).
Latest version...and of course it doesn't open it.
If it did, then Premiere Pro would as well...and of course Media Encoder would HAVE to work as well with it.

None of them do.

Canon tech said today that he was told v13.1 supports XF705...well, we all know that is not true.

Adobe....at least keep us up to date so we are not forced to find alternatives. Do the right thing......

It is true for me.  I have two XF705s and Premiere plays the 1080p XF AVC codec fine, but not the 4K XF HEVC yet... however, After Effects does play the XF HEVC!  So I can use AfterFx and export to a 4K format Premiere does read of I want to work with 4K.

It did not work until the most recent update.

Hi 8raptor8,

  • I can use AfterFx and export to a 4K format Premiere does read of I want to work with 4K.
  • It did not work until the most recent update.

Thank you for sharing this vital info with the community. I recommend transcoding to an intermediate codec like ProRes or GoPro Cineform.

Regards,
Kevin
