Captioning issue

Every so often when doing closed captions I hit the + button to add the next one, the black box surrounding the caption goes away.  why?

This happened a few times and I was able to go back to the last caption box that was correct, then click the + and continue on.

I haven't changed a setting or anything to make this happen.  How do I fix this?

    Subtitle Edit is here:

    https://www.nikse.dk/subtitleedit

Windows only. There are other options for Mac.

There are 2 issues: if the entry of the captions is proving too difficult, then you can do the entry in another program, like Subtitle  Edit. You export your video and then do the entry in that other program. You save a caption file in that program, and import it to PR.

The other issue is getting the closed caption background you want, opaque or tranparent. Get the setting you want when you import the caption file.

Thanks! I am on a Mac. I may just put the rest in without the box. I tried to change those with the box and can't do that either.

Biddle, right, the opaque/transparent is the current bug. If you want them all to be the same, there's a workaround via importing.

SubtitleEdit (and others) is a free third party program.

To import, where do I find the subtitle edit? I haven't done that before. I appreciate your time!

There was a bug in an earlier version, fixed before the version you are using. So I think it is not that.

So I wonder if you are getting a variation of this one:

    https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/34073770-issue-with-background-color-with-closed-captioning

Staff has just reported it is fixed in the upcoming release, but that won't help you.

An alternative is to create a file of the captions (e.g. using Subtitle Edit), then import them with the import settings set for the correct background.

you know where the choice for the background: transparent, translucent or opaque are, those options do not work when I click on them.

This is my first time doing closed captions and my last, lol.  I am afraid to update because of what I went through in the past.  One time on a prior project, I updated and the version of the film I was working on, just wouldn't open.  I had to start over.  I am only doing captions because it is required for exhibition.

You mean the black background of closed caption in the program monitor or in the closed caption panel you don't see the box to write the closed caption. Also, let us know the version of premiere pro your using and closed caption format.

I face sometimes issues with closed caption panel, so I try to maximize the caption panel using the key "~" or srub the timeline to refresh the closed caption panel.

My screen is the standard set up, upper left, where source material blah blah is, next to that is the window where the footage I am working on, shes the clip from my timeline.

trying again, captions have a black background, with white lettering, nothing changed. Every once in a while, the background just changes from opaque to transparent. But I can't change it back to opaque. Why does this happen, I didn't change anything?
