As an alternative to Encore CS6,  I am not able to load my MPEG 2 video file directly.  Apparently, it needs some other files.

Correct answer Ann Bens

Nope its just a burning program (which btw I use too).

In order to make a video dvd you need to author (and that is what Encore does) the files first: make them suitable to burn as a video dvd.

Which are vob's, ifo and bup all neatly packed together in a video_ts folder or iso (image).

Just on a side note: you can burn the mpeg2 file to disk as data but then you will only be able to play the file on a computer not a standalone dvd player.

You did not indicate if it is necessary to select DVD High Compability.

I just keep everything default.

The only thing I change is the burning speed which is always have the disk speed.

I am now using CD Burner XP.  I have successfully burnt DVD and Blu-ray discs from an Image File.  When I burn a DVD it gives the option of selecting DVD High Compability.  Do I need to select this option?  This option does not occur when I burn a Blu-ray disc.
