Clips out of order when dragged to timeline.

I go out and shoot a sometimes long series of clips and it is important that I watch them in the order I shot them.  I fire up Premiere Pro and make sure that the clips are sorted in order in the browser.  But when I drag the whole series to the timeline, they will be in some different order than I shot and sorted them in and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.  Very frustrating.  It is laborious to reorder the clips on the timeline.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

      Could you tell me how you did it because I'm suffering over here. My clips are out of order because I wasn't paying attention to the order of clips I selected.


      I think the general idea is to first sort the clips in the Program pane in the order in which you want them to appear in the timeline.  Then, select the first clip in the list, hold down Shift, and select the last clip.  Now, drag the selected group of clips to the timeline.

      It's been many years, but I've just had this issue. I fixed it by displaying files as a list as opposed to large icons with preview. Then select and drag and they stayed in order.

      Had the same problem but noticed I didn't have the audio "A1" button selected. Once I clicked on it the clips were arranged in the right order.

      It may be a bit late to be answering this question, but a simple solution to this was brought up to me, and I thought it should be mentioned here:

      The problem I was having was in the method of selecting the clips. I was always using click-and-drag to select my clips before placing them in the timeline, but a coworker gave me the advice to shift-click the 1st and last clips instead to select the group. Out of everything I tried, this is what ended up solving my problem.

      Our theory has been that due to the varying lengths of the individual clips, drag-selecting may cause shorter clips down the line to respond slightly quicker to the selection than larger clips, thus inadvertently selecting them out of order, and generally mucking up the whole process. This could depend largely on the RAM and render speed of your computer. (Mind you, we're video editors, not IT guys, so I could be way off on this theory)

          Try this: In the lower left corner of the Media Browser, there's a button to the right of the toolbar:

          Click it and select User Order:

          Now if you select the clips in a particular order, does dragging them to the sequence preserve their order?

          Also try this: Select the clip in your preferred order and then right click and select New Sequence from Clip.

          Does either one of these tips work for you?

            Sorting by User Order doesn't work.  The order, for some reason, ends up all wrong.  I have found, as a result of your input, that sorting by Label, right clicking, and selecting New Sequence from Clip works.  Also Automate to Sequence works if the clips are presorted correctly.  Thanks for your help.

              I take back what I said.  The New Sequence from Clip method sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.  But the Automate to Sequence button at the bottom right of the browser does seem to work consistently.
