Trying to import a .mov file from an iPhone 5.

Already installed latest version of QT 7 and restarted computer.

File uploads to Youtube so it can be read.

Using Premiere CC 2014 on Windows 7.

Just go to your iphone's settings. Then, go to Camera... In the Formats section, choose 'Most Compatible.' It will automatically record videos in H.264 format.

I just had the same problem import all my videos into Adobe Encoder CC 2019 and exported them as 1080 MP4 and the import right into Premier.

Hey all,

I just converted one of these problem MOV files to MP4 with both Handbrake and VLC (PC) and it imported perfectly into Premiere.

Just be sure to set the Audio settings... If you use the default settings, the audio will play in VLC, but won't import into Premiere at all.

    Handbrake:
      Codec: AC3
      Mixdown: None;

   VLC:
      Check "Keep existing audio."

Hope that helps!

Hi guys, I had this problem a few years ago with previous version of premiere pro. All I had to do is to install Qucktime version 7 to fix the issue. Any older or newer version of quicktime will give me the same "Codec missing or unavailable" error message.

I am now using CC 2015 and if I don't install Quicktime Version 7 I am still get the "Codec missing or unavailable" error message. I hope this will help. If you need the quicktime Version 7 email me at masartv at gmail dot com.

Hi Didi, just out of curiosity, are you uploading the MOV files from your iPhone to Google Drive or something like it? Or are you plugging in your iPhone lightning cable to your computer and copying them that way?

I use Google Drive constantly for backing up my videos on my iPhone. I figured to save time, I could open up my raw footage on my PC just by downloading them from Drive on my PC. But when I do, I get the same exact error about the codec missing once I import them in to Premiere.

When I copy the same exact video clip directly from my iPhone to the PC and import to Premiere, it works just fine.

Which leads me to believe that the video codec or something about the file is modified once it gets uploaded to Google Drive.

Might sound crazy, but I'm really curious to see if you have the same issue I do.

They were shared with me via Dropbox. Not sure what happened to them before they were put on DB, perhaps they were put on Google Drive. But as long as it is strictly file transfer, nothing should be happening to the files...

If you don't see an option for "Download Original File", you definitely want to test whether or not the cloud storage being used is transcoding the video file.

If you come to find that the video settings are different after download, you can create a Zip archive for upload instead.  It adds an extra step to your workflow and the video can no longer be viewed while stored in the cloud, but the settings should remain intact.

Something else that could be creeping up here is the video on the iPhone being HEVC (H265).

I just had the same problem as you did, and I noted that my iPhone 7+ was set to record at 720  and 30 fps.   So, I switched the settings to 1080p 30fps and guess what , Adobe Premiere loved it and it works fine!!   Interesting...

Didn't work for me.

I use iPhone 7+ and recorded 1080 30fps and 60fps.

None of the videos are accepted by Premiere Pro. No video

Might want to go the Handbrake route.

I got it to work. I put the clip in EditReady and converted it to Prores 422.
