Color Emojis in text box only showing black and white in Project window

I have a project movie in Premiere.  I put emojis in text boxes in 2017. 

In the recent upgrade, all the emojis disappeared.

Then I re- cut and paste them.

They show as color normal emojis in the Effects window.

But in the Project Play Window, they show up as black and white.

I tried unchecking black fill letter, and all the words disappear.

Then one emoji I put as a separate item on the timeline sequence,

but it took a very long time to move.  It would not let me double click and move it.

I had to estimate the pixel position. But actually, there are supposed to be 3 emojis there as per my last draft.

This is very stupid - I have maximum memory and shouldn't be having problems like this.
