Question

Computer getting "slower" with every next project

I bought a brand new computer to make my work easier and faster with Premiere Pro. When I was working on my first 3 projects, everything was super smooth and quick (rendering, exporting, motion graphics were working just beautiful, etc.). Now I'm working on my 10th and 11th project, and rendering takes approx. 5x longer, as well as exporting (for ex. from 3 minutes to 12). Projects that I'm working on are all very similar to each other.

I'm cleaning cache after the project is done, deleting the project, as well I'm deleting auto-save files.

Do you know why computer gets slower and slower? What can I do to make it work as quick as at the beginning? There are only Adobe applications installed on that computer, nothing else.

GPU and Hardware Encoding are active.

My computer:

32BG RAM

GeForce RTX 3070

IntelCore i7-10xxx

1000GD ssd hard drive (PCIe NVMe) - only one

Hi Marta.

Sorry about that. I have some questions for you.

  1. Which method are you using to delete media cache?
    1. Are you deleting media cache via Preferences?
    2. Are you deleting media cache with all projects closed?
  2. What is your source media?
    1. Is it Long GOP (H.264 or HEVC) media?
    2. Is it 4K or HD media?
    3. Are you using proxy media?
  3. Anything else unusual about your workflow that you aren't telling us?
    1. Any overized still images?
    2. Unusual codecs or alpha channel graphics?
    3. Are you deleting your video preview files between projects?
  4. In Project Settings, is the GPU set for Mercury Playback Engine?
    1. Have you updated GPU drivers lately?
    2. Which drivers are you using?
    3. Are you using studio drivers or game ready drivers? Should be studio drivers.

Hope we can help you with more info.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin, please find my replies below your questions.

Are you deleting media cache via Preferences?

Are you deleting media cache with all projects closed?

I am using both methods.

Anything else unusual about your workflow that you aren't telling us?

I work mostly with MOGRTs and with graphics/images files (JPG, PNG etc)

Even right now I'm trying to work with 10-secongs long mogrt file, and "estimated time left" is 45 minutes. It's impossible for me to work at all.

Any overized still images?

I always convert images in Photoshop to a size that I will need in PP. And they are always rgb, 8 bit.

Are you deleting your video preview files between projects?

Yes I do.

In Project Settings, is the GPU set for Mercury Playback Engine?

Yes it is.

Have you updated GPU drivers lately?

I've done that actually today. I downloaded the nevest studio driver from Nividia website.

Which drivers are you using? Are you using studio drivers or game ready drivers? Should be studio drivers.

The newest one, STUDIO.

Oh, I forgot to add that I'm using in one projest both GRPHICS and VIDEOS, and there are many layers in one sequence.

How much space do you have left on your hard drive? The more space used, the slower it gets so it is worth checking.

That should be sufficient enough.

When you export, do you click on Export or Queue to launch Adobe Media Encoder?
