Question

Copy/paste and In/out section to a track

Hi guys...I want to create a singer's highlight reel by picking sections from the main track of the whole performance to a separate track selected using In/out.

I'm ok defining an in/out section. What I can't figure out is how to select the in/out section and copying (not cutting) just that in/out section to a separate track using paste.

Thanks

Or do a stacked timeline panel "pancake editing" process.

Two sequences in timeline panels one above the other. Typically original material in lower, selects on upper.

Set cut points in original, alt/drag to selects. Rinse and repeat.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

Hi PosadaPhotography,

Welcome to the community! You may try these steps & check if it helps.

  • Open your sequence with the main performance in the timeline.
  • In the timeline, set your In and Out points for the section you want to copy.
  • Next, in the timeline, make sure no clips are selected by clicking an empty space & then do a copy using Ctrl/Cmd +C (this ensures that only the highlighted section is copied).
  • Create a new sequence for the highlight reel, & use Ctrl/Cmd +V to paste (You can also use a separate track on the main timeline, but then you will need to ensure that the track targeting while copying & pasting the selections are set correctly).

Thanks,

Sumeet

I think that instead of using in and out you should razor slice, highlight with the selection tool the part that you want to copy and then copy (Control/Commsnd C) then place the timeline indicator where you'd like to paste then Control/Command V) to paste. If you'd like to paste insert also hold down Shift when pasting. I hope that this helps.
