CPU usage high, GPU usage low

I have a AMD Radeon rx 6600, and I noticed that my CPU utilization for rendering reaches at times 100 %.  My graphics card utlization is at 25-30 %, is there a way to make my CPU usage lower, or is my GPU and CPU working together but most of the power is coming from the CPU.  

 

Specs

CPU- i7 9700k 

GPU- AMD radeon 6600

RAM- 32 GB

Motherboard- Z390 Gigabyte 

Storage- 512GB m2.   3T SSD

Depending on what your sequences include, yes, there are times your CPU will near peg with low GPU usage. And at other times your GPU may be pegging while the CPU waits for the GPU to get a task done.

 

As long as you have proper cooling, your CPU should be able to go to 100% regularly without damage. Damage only occurs due to overheating. So check your CPU temps, improve cooling if needed.

 

And be grateful you're getting such good CPU utiilization. Some users are reporting their CPU never goes over 35-50%, while taking ages to get something done.

This helps alot, thanks.  The reason why i was worried is becuase about 4yrs ago i decided to build a hackintosh, and the graphics card that was used back then was sapphire nitro AMD radeon rx580.  I deciced to switch to windows as of one month ago because as you may or may not know updating a hackintosh is a complex task.  Windows just makes thing easier.  Also the AMD radeon rx 580 graphics failed after a month of using it and this happened when I insalled Windows. So I bought the Gigabyte AMD Radeon 6600

 

Anyway back to the consern, was becuase while using the hackintosh with the AMD Radeon RX580 card my cpu, was used at utilizing anywhere from 60-80%.  Seeing my CPU jump to that kind of 100% just got me concerned.

Again, check your CPU and GPU temps. Make sure they stay in reasonable bounds even when use spikes. Cooling systems are a heck of a lot cheaper then replacing a cooked CPU or system.

 

But usage up to 100%, with safe temps, should not be a problem.

Rendering, whether previews or export, is a CPU centric task. The GPU is not an equivalent processor, it's an additional tool used for specific things.

 

Such as resizing things, Warp and some other effects, and color changes. You can check for the GPU Accelerated Effects list to find everything. Over time they have added a few more effects.

 

The GPU is used only for those things, and is used for those things when the CPU gets to them and sends data to the GPU for processing.

    So is it normal for my CPU too run so high, such as anywhere 80-100%.  I just dont want my CPU too go bad since I have to edit and render videos once a week.  I work on at least 6-10 vids all at roughly 5-60 mintues a vids.
