Crazy lag and spinning rainbow wheel

This just started this week. On two projects that I've been working on for the last month. It also starts if I open up older projects that haven't been touched for a while.

I press Spacebar to start playing. The clips play perfect in the monitor but the playhead over the sequence stops moving, then catches up 10-15 seconds later. The audio monitors also freeze at the same time. I press Spacebar to stop play and the software waits 10-15 seconds before playing stops. Now any action I do, clicking on a menu, opening a bin induces ten seconds of a spinning rainbow wheel. Anything I do I have to wait 10-15 seconds.

The software is completely unusable.

When I quit out, I get an error 'Run Script Error, Uncaught exception'

What I've tried so far:

- All the mac stuff, reset permissions, empty trash, ensure all OS updates installed

- Cleared out media cache, deleted media cache, relocated media cache

- Uninstalled ALL of my adobe software. Uninstalled Creative Cloud. Reinstalled CC and then just PP.

- Opened PP without any other software running

- Disconnected my bluetooth Airpods

- Saved as new projects. Saved only the sequence and used clips

- switched to metal

Everything and still the UI is so laggy. It's like a script is running in the background

I'm struggling now to be honest!

5k Imac, latest OS, 2TB fusion drive, 32 gig Ram.

UPDATE:

It's a piece of software called INSTA360 Stitcher. It's a piece of software for the INSTA360 Camera and they released a version with a plugin for Premiere.

Well a whole week of work lost.

If anyone has issues like we've experienced I urge you to check your plugins. I'm not sure if there's a way to do this from Premiere, I came across it completely by accident and removed the software and it worked.

Thank you for posting this. The current insta360 installer is still creating this issue. It makes premiere pro unusable! I lost 2 days of work and my whole weekend to this bug. Please someone, do something to prevent this from happening again to someone else!!!

WOW.  It's taken me about three full days at work to realize that this was the issue I was encountering.

Adobe support did not help at all in terms of finding this issue.  I actually told them I had this software installed (Insta360 importer) and they did not make me aware of any issues with this software.

I have had the software installed for about a month now.  I have used it countless times with no issue occurring at all.  Then suddenly my machine started to not be able to handle any function inside of Premiere without lagging out.

I had tried everything else (seriously...everything) to make Premiere run again, but this did the trick.

Thank you so much for posting this.

How full is the Fusion Drive? Is that where you have your media stored?

What is the type and kind of media you are using?

The media is stored on a GRaid Thunderbolt drive 50% full. The Fusion drive is just for my OS.

The media is H264 and Prores files from Sony a7r and DJI Drones. The media all play find and everything has been working great, it's the software that has become problematic.

Another development. I left the project open overnight and have come in this morning to find PP has crashed with another Run Script error on the screen.
