Cross dissolve working on my mask paths between clips, but not the video clips themselves

In a pickle on a Sunday..

I can apply the cross dissolve (center at cut) between two clips , or on images, and it works as expected.

However the cross dissolve when applied between two clips with two mask paths, only the mask paths dissolve between them, but not the video clips.

Hoping it's a simple checkbox somewhere to 'anchor' the masks to the videos, that way both cross dissolve?

Did you try Nesting the clips with their effect and then dissolove the two nests?

So awesome. That did it 👏. Nesting is my new friend. Thank you!

I'm not sure what you mean? Like a rectangle mask, used to show only part of each clip? Any screenshots / video?

Thank you, maybe this will clarify -

Screenshots show I have Clip 1 and Clip 2, each one with a unique color key and mask.

When I apply the transition between the two clips, such as cross dissolve, and make it a center cut between the clips, it only cross dissolves the masks and not the entire video with the masks. If that makes sense.

It's as if the transition is treating the mask as a separate layer from the video clip.
