Cut and Close Gap shortcut?

Question: Is there a way to create a shortcut that cuts and closes gap between clips, all at once?

I'm NOT looking for Ripple Delete. What I need is to CUT the clip and have it COPIED to my Clipboard so I can place it somewhere else in the timeline faster.

What I've been doing is to Ctrl+X the clip, then click on the gap that is created and press Delete, then paste the copied clip in another position with Ctrl+Shift+V. I needed that action to be more dynamic.

As far as I could see, I cannot create a whole new shortcut for this conjoined action, but only customize already existing ones.

It could also be a way of rearranging the clip to fit another space between clips by dragging it with the mouse cursor, while moving the other clips forward (the 'A' tool will let me drag clips forward, but I still have to close the gaps manually).

Thanks!

PS.: I think there's a button I press when the playhead (or mouse cursor, don't remember) is hovering over the gap and it closes when I press it, but I can't remember which. That would already be helpful.

yes your right in case of close gap. Then solution I think is to mark the In & out inside the gap you can do so by using the shortcut  x  or Main menu > Markers> Mark clip while keeping the playhead anywhere in the gap. once the gap is selected you can ripple delete it.

To reinforce what Vishu posted above about how to close some but not all gaps, here are some screen shots of the process.

Before (mark the In and Out range, clips don't have to be selected):

After selecting Sequence > Close Gap:

Alternatively, lasso-select the clips (and don't mark In/Out range) and then select Sequence > Close Gaps.

Hi,

You use the Extract option for which you have the shortcut ' the option is available under the main menu > Sequence > Extract. But in order to use it you will have to first mark the In & Out inside the sequence.

Extract - will copy the selection of In & Out and also delete the gap.

I think you talking about Close gap option available under the main menu > Sequence > close gap. By default it does not have any shortcut to it but you can create a shortcut for the same.

Hi,

The Close Gap option will close all existing gaps. I needed an option that would let me choose which gap I wish to close.

Thanks!

The two operations can't be combined into a single action without the aid of external help, like a macro on your mouse or something.
