Question

cutting a trailer for a feature doc with audio stems

So I'll be editing a trailer for a feature documentary.  I've been provided with a 1080 prores(hq) final output and audio stems which include music left and right, music effects left and right, dialog only left and right and thinking about the best workflow.    Thinking that the best way to proceed is to merge the dialog only left and right tracks to a single stereo track and synch to the prores file in Premiere and output so I can edit with the picture and dialog as simply as possible...  and merge the left and right music tracks to a single stereo track to use as my music source...

Just wondering if anyone has experience with this sort of workflow and has any opinion on it or alternative schemes.

Gonna ask the client if she anticipates any need for a surround mix for the trailer...

Thanks as always.

I'm thinking sync the picture and stems in a Source Sequence and Insert/Overwrite to a Sequence with "Insert or overwrite Sequences as nests or individual clips" disabled.  Selecting left edges and right edges for Ripple and Roll will require click and shift-click to refine the edit, but Q, W, Lift and Extract will work across all tracks as usual.

Thanks, Neil.  Just got connected with the sound designer for the film who will be doing the trailer mix, and will get his feedback on my suggested workflow...
