Device not recognized, at least not 100%

I always could use my SONY DSR PD170P to play my videotapes and record them with Adobe Premiere Pro. The SONY was connected with my Windows 10 computer via a firewire cable.

A few weeks ago I re-installed my computer and since then Adobe Premiere Pro doesn't recognize my SONY anymore. That is,.....when I play a videotape on the SONY, the Adobe PP capture screen does show the video and the VU-meters show the sound, but I can't capture the video anymore.

The capture screen says: STOPPED and only the red RECORD button and the blue STOP button are active, the rest of the buttons are greyed out. Pressing the RECORD button doesn't do anything.

Whenever I use a freeware program called WINDV I can record video and audtio (but of course I want to use Adobe PP again like I used to).

Anybody who can help me out with this?

Hello Kevin, I have a Windows computer not a MAC. But I think I found the reason. Is it correct that the latest versions of Premiere Pro don't have a CAPTURE option anymore?

Capture feature has been dropped as of 2024.

Even on 2023 Premiere can be very fickle.

Use WinDV instead or some older version like CS6.

Hey there, @Marc VanZ,

I read your question. DV Firewire device control is no longer supported. Which version are you using? Let us know. I hope we can help you.

Thanks,

Kevin
