Dip to black on tracks above video track 1

I don't think that the "Dip To Black" function is actually starting in black.  Does anyone know why the Dip To Black doesn't work on Targa or Png files on the new Premiere 12.1? It won't start in black.  Instead it shows picture, then dips to black and back up again to picture.  This happens both at the beginning and end of edits on files with an Alpha channel.

Thanks,

MA

Let me be more specific. Make your first edit on your sequence with something keyable on a top video track (i.e. a rating code) and have video beneath it . Neither a cross fade nor a Dip to Black will show a fade up from black. The only work around I can figure is to add 1 frame of black on the keyable track followed by the effect. This was NOT the case in the previous version. Do you have a different work around/effect for this scenario?

PR help re dip to black:

    Dip To Black transition

Dip To Black fades clip A to black, and then fades from black to clip B.

Note: Using dip to black at the beginning or end of a clip will also affect a video on a lower track, something not always expected when a simple fade in/out of the targeted clip is what is wanted. The cross dissolve transition may work better for this.

I don't know if anything changed, but the basic function did not.

    It's not supposed to.

it shows picture, then dips to black and back up again to picture

That is what Dip transitions do.  It's working correctly.

Thanks for your reply Jim. In sequence settings, Composite in linear color was already unchecked. Any other thoughts?

It's working correctly.  There's nothing to fix here.  If you want to start in black, just use a Crossfade.

Try unchecking Composite in linear color in the sequence settings.
