DJI videos not importing from SD card/SSD direct to Premiere Pro

Hello all,

I'm using Premiere Pro 25.1 on Macbook Pro M4 Pro. I have a lot of videos from my DJI Mini 4 Pro, some saved to an external SSD and some still on the SD card. When trying to import direct from SSD or SD card to Premiere Pro, the videos don't even show up in the import section. When I download the videos to the Macbook however, I am then able to import them to the program, even though the video specs are unchanged!

Example video specs:

File name DJI_20241226151412_0894_D.MP4

Data size 167.9MB

Data rate 90.34Mb/s

Res 3840x2160

Vid format HEVC

Please could someone explain what is going on, I would like to be able to import direct from SSD/SD rather than have to download to Mac first.

Thanks.

You never import directly from a SD card into Premiere. Because when removing the card, your files go offline.

What kind of SSD are you using.

To fill out Ann's accurate comment, Premiere does not make a copy of a file when it "imports".

It only creates a metadata reference link to the current file location on disk, which is why when you remove the card or external SSD drive, the file would go offline.

Hi Ann,

Currently using SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD.

Try using the Media Browser.

But when files are imported into Premiere, you should not remove the disk to avoid relinking every time.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
