Do I need a Upgrade

Question

Im a freelance Video editor and have been for some time now, I have been learning some new technics and adding a lot of Moton graphics to my videos and since doing this My video's in the playback has started to really slow down and when I try and move things around in the video motion, its so jumpy if i don't render the sequence, but that is taking to much time to do that.

My computer specs are

4070

ryzen 7 5800x3d

with 32gb 3000MHz ram

I am manly working with 1080p footage to.

is there somthing else i can do to speed it up or do i need to upgrade and if so what?

First off, you did not mention the number or type of disks that you are currently using in that desktop PC. An HDD will always be significantly slower than all but the very cheapest SSDs.

Second is your choice of a CPU itself. That Ryzen 7 5800X3D has a noticeably slower clock speed than even the non-X3D Ryzen 7 5700X, let alone the Ryzen 7 5800X. Plus, no video editing program takes any advantage whatsoever of the added X3D cache – only games do.

So, if you want to keep your existing CPU motherboard platform, then my recommendation would be a Ryzen 9 5900X or 5950X (if you can obtain either of those CPUs) Otherwise, I'd recommend an entirely new CPU/motherboard/RAM combo such as an Intel i5-14600K with a Z790 DDR5 motherboard and 32 GB or more DDR5 RAM.
