Question

Does Premiere use Audio track info in AAF export?

Hi,

I have a random question that I havn't been able to find an answer to.

"When exporting an AAF from Premiere, does the Audio Track information such as effects (compressor etc), levels, pan, become exported with the AAF? And if it does, does it mean that the audio files become embeded with these effects/vol/pan, or are they just reflected in the DAW that the audio engineer is using? ie If using Pro Tools when openning the AAF it will have the tracks with audio clips on the timeline, and in the track mixer panel it will have tracks with settings reflecting (as best it can with compatability concerns) the track mixer from Premiere?"

Does anyone have information on this?

Many thanks!

Hello Jaime,

Thanks for the question.

As far as I know, when exporting an AAF from Premiere Pro, you can choose to include audio clip effects, volume automation, and pan settings. If you enable “Render audio clip effects,” those effects (e.g., compression, EQ) will be baked into the exported audio files.

You can also include unprocessed versions of the clips for flexibility.

In Pro Tools, the AAF will open with audio clips placed on the timeline, and the mixer panel will reflect volume and pan settings as good as possible, depending on compatibility. However, not all effects or automation may translate perfectly, so it’s a good idea to provide both processed and raw audio tracks when handing off to an audio engineer.

Let me know if you need help with anything.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thank you very much for your answer Kevin.

I'm a sound editor and I keep receiving the AAF from the video editor with all levels set to 0db (volume track and audio clips) even though he has a temp mix on his Premiere session.

I did a quick search online and found that if he enables the "Render audio clip effects" the volume would be "printed" into the AAF, but it isn't working. When he showed me a screenshot of his session, I could see that the volume automation lies within the "fx" of the audio clip and not the track itself. So the question here would be, is there a way to make that volume to reflect into the AAF and preserve their temp mix????

I'm attaching a couple of images for reference.

thank you!

Jaime
