Double clicking to reposition / resize selects top-most clip even if it's disabled

I'm using 24.5.0, but this has been standard for quite some time.

1. Add two clips to a sequence and stack them one on top of the other.

2. Disable the top clip.

3. In your program monitor, double click so you can reposition/resize your clip.

4. Premiere has now selected your invisible disabled clip instead of the clip you were likely intending to select.

What I would expect to happen is for premiere to select the clip that I am clicking on in the sequence, what actually happens is that Premiere selects the clip that is at the position of my cursor that has the highest track number, regardless of enable/disable status. I cannot theorize a reason why this would be advantateous as it seems unhelpful to be able to move clips that are disabled as you can't even really see what you're doing with them.

Enable/disable only means the visibility is off. You can still edit the clip

Might want to use Activate Direct Manipulation in the Program monitor (need to set a kbsc)

Select the (enabled) clip in the timeline, hit the kbsc and move the clip around in the Program Monitor. (no double-clicking needed)

You can also select the clip in the timeline, open the effect controls and highlight the word Motion. Nou you can move the clip around in the Program Monitor.

Hi BrianDavison,

To prevent the top clip from getting selected, please enable Track Lock for the top clip & then try to perform the reposition/resize action in the Program monitor. Hope this helps.

Hey Sumeet, thanks for the advice. I totally get that the Track Lock works to accomplish what I am trying to do, but it adds additional work. I would contend that there is not a good reason for the behavior to actually work this way and that the more efficient behavior for a user would be to not require them to go through the step of using track lock and to not allow selecting of an invisible disabled clip in the program monitor. The way it currently works seems pretty counterintuitive. I guess maybe this is less of a bug and more of a feature request?

Couldn't agree more, this is so irritating! Why would I want to resize/move invisible Tracks while I can't see them? Double clicking on the Program monitor should 100% select the element you are actually clicking... I have never commented here but would love to see this get changed.
