There were many useful effects that disappeared after the latest PRemiere Pro update.
Among those are : blur in, blur out, blur convolution ...
why ? Those were necessary.

Lots of effects have been obsolete for a long time and now removed in the last update (24.6)

OK, thanks
reverted to previous version ...
Will not update anymore I guess

very useful, and most used ...
considered obsolete
(and some need 3rd party to acheive similar effects)
Sad thing ...

1) Those effects have been in the Obsolete bin since what, at least back to Pr 2018. We've all had plenty of time to adapt as clearly they were going buh-bye at some point.
2) They do have a list published about the end of the Obsolete effects, and for every effect, they list the replacement. You may or may not see the listed replacement as an option you will like.
In general, those effects were ones that a) were not heavily used across the total user base, b) had math that was problematic or simply faulty in some cases, and 3) were built using ancient code.
So to "keep" them, at some point they would need completely new coding. Which given a) above, they weren't interested in doing. Not enough users.
And understand, I liked a couple of the 'Noise/grain' options myself. But not many users actually used those either.

- I am not that old. I am a relatively new user (less than a year)
- Yes, I prefer the option to drag and drop than buying other 3rd party tools to achieve things I could do easily before ... OK CapCut (and its effects) is free I know ... but for the time being I am a Premiere Pro user (Yearly subscriber).
- I get it. I'll install the Beta app in case I need some new features. But for the main app, I will stick for the 24.5 version for the next few months.

Most everything on that list can be done with other effects in the current list.
And plug-ins have been a normal part of the video post process in every app I know of.

I know ...
Let's take Fast Blur In .... I took 1 sec to drop the effect. To do this effect manually would take may be one minute or more. ... Other things can be more tedious ...
I agree to buy plugins for things that can't be done with the main app. But right now, I prefer to stick with the version of the app that can do it natively, without the need to buy extra plugins.
As I said, fortunately, there is the Beta program in case I need some new features.
And fortunately, in this era of Open-Source and AI ... things are getting easier and easier to be done ...

Fast Blur In : You can make these presets with Gaussian blur yourself.

Yes, I know I can do most of them myself ....
For now, I prefer to stick with the app version that can do all the effects natively, and I just have to drag and drop.
And I don't have to buy plugings for other effects.

Effects presets are also drag and drop. You can find more information on how to use them here: Effect Presets in Premiere Pro.

Thank you 🙂 👍🙏
Yes, I knew that.
But for the moment I am not really in the mood of recreating all those effects manually 🙂
I liked the fact that I could revert to the previous version, not update anymore and install the beta version.

A preset of a built-in effect is native worfklow.
I'm not sure I see the difference ... you dragged out the old effect, set paramaters.
You drag out and set parameters, and add a one time 'save as preset' ... which I've done a ton of times. Not seeing the huge problem. But we all do things differently, and see things differently.

If it were only for one preset, I would have done that and kept updating, but most of the presets I used were removed, so I am good with not updating.

I've got two types of comments ...first, I do understand the frustration of having to change things from what has just worked. Yea, that's never welcomed. That's the emotional response.
Now ... the rational response.
First, just talking as a practical guy. Which is what I am. I have to work in both the Adobe apps and BlackMagic's Resolve daily. I've got personal opinions, and a bit of emotional reaction, as I vastly prefer the UI and customizations available to the user in Premiere. But for the training I do for pro colorists, I need to be "up" on using that app as well. And they are very different in nearly every aspect of design and function.
But ... what works, works. What is, is. I often don't like "what works" and "what is" ... but in reality, everything has always, always changed. The most consistent part of my 40+ years in professional imaging is constant change. So working with the changes has always been a necessary part of being a professional.
None of this digital stuff was even a gleam in anyone's eye when I started my career.
Second, the devs had reasons those speficic effects were considered "obsolete", which aren't necessarily something we users worry about (internal code, math errors et al). As they've had the folder for years, I've had numerous discussions with devs at NAB, about several of the effects. They were quite patient and clear about the problems with each one. So I do accept they had a point for those specific effects.
Third, they had considered which "new" effects could be used for every one of the Obsolete folder effects. Hence the listing or chart with all of the "Obsolete" effects, and the replacement effect to be used in its place. So they did consider how we users replaced the functionality, even if "we" don't always agree the functionality is identical.
Fourth, some of the replacements are actually better and/or faster to use. Like the EG panel for putting shapes or borders around screen elements ... too many users don't realize how easy and fast that is to use.
And fifth ... they gave us years of warning that those effects were going to go away. Years. Since the 2019, if not 2018 version. We have all had time to adapt to other tools and processes. Years of time.
I don't mean to diminish the angst of having to change. I get that!
But ... that's just part of what I've had to do over and over and over ... and over ... so I have to conclude, that's Life in professional imaging. Whether "we" like it or not doesn't seem to matter. Irks me at times, but ... ah well.

Oh ... and about updating ... the 25.x public beta is out, with an incredibly expanded color management capability. That I'm still pushing through its paces and finding ... an amazing and incredible improvement in professional capabilities for this app.
Being able to specify the working space, including the ability to work with the media transformed to a wide gamut space on input to a sequence, using the color tools in color-space-aware mode, and at the same time displaying to a chosen output space.
And ... an easy switch to turn all CM off for needed passthrough work if you choose.
That is a huge improvement for so many profesisonal workflows.
It blows away, by itself, losing a few comfortable old effects.
Yea ... change is sometimes very, very good ...

I agree that we have to adapt to change. Especially to move forward, for easier things ... (might not very pleasing at first but benefical in the long run ...)
Removing the effects are for the good of developers ... (not users). Indeed, they could have replaced them (or create the replacement presets themselves, but of course that would be time consuming for developpers, we -users- had years to figure out how to replace those from the list [using photoshop, illustrator, 3r party plugins ...]
Yes, I appreciate that we have the beta version on the other side to try out new features.
And I don't mind not updating the main app because my subscription will expire in a just a few months ... I have all I need for now.
I think I am a quite fast learner, and I like to try new tools that makes my work easier.
I've seen some apps that have loads of downloadable effects ... Franckly, I welcome the tools that makes life easier, not forcing me to tinker a lot of stuff to get what I want. But that's for later.

Frankly I'm always puzzled at how the development teams for both Premiere and Resolve choose which things to make as an "internal affect" and which to leave for 3rd party work. As they both make that decision constantly.
Resolve has a lot of internal things especially for color work, being historically a grading app. But most of the colorists I know (and that's quite a few, really, as I work for and teach colorists) use mostly 3rd party plugins for many things Resolve does have. As the 3rd party one is just a lot better.
No question, it is very jangly to users when "our" effects we use often get messed with. THAT ... is rarely comfortable at first. Never.
