Edit multicam + view in timeline for both source and program monitors?

Question

Is this possible - toggling source/record similar to Avid with multicam sequences in each panel? When multicam sequence is open in source monitor, and I enable multicam then attempt to open in timeline - option is greyed out. Or if I don't enable multicam in the source monitor, and open that in timeline, I am unable to playback multicam in source.

What am I missing here? Any help would be appreciated.

See, this is where I'm not following you. You CAN cut your multicam from source into the program timeline. It's just like cutting in any other clip or source media. If you want to select the multicam angle before you cut it in then enable the multicam view in the source monitor (I personally use the button, added from the tray) and select the angle. When it inserts into the program it will still be a multicam clip, and you can match frame it back to the master multicam.

I followed this post because I was having the same problem with Multi-Cam and I couldn't figure it out. I finally have a solution so I'm postin it here on the end of this thread to help out any other poor previous Avid Editor who can't figure out why things don't work the way they are supposed to right away. As with the original poster I couldn't get all my cameras to appear properly in my multi-clips and when I tried to switch between the cameras one box was always blank even though when I matched back to my original sequnences the clips were there. I found I had one setting turned on in these sequences that was foiling my multi-cam glory. It was the 'insert and overwrite sequences as nests or individual clips.' When it was blue and turned on it only inserted my Multi-Cam as a nested clip which didn't match back properly to my Multi-Cam sequence. Once I popped that off, I was cutting my Multicam clip into the timeline and not a nested sequence. (I know confusing right?) But that made all the difference. I could see the A or B of the clip I was trying to switch between. I went back to all my multicam sequences/clips and turned this function off. And VOILA!! They all worked properly.

Hi there,

I may be misunderstanding your request, but you can do the following:

Place an entire multican clip into a timeline, then turn on multicam view in the Program monitor. As you play back the sequence, you can select different cam angles (on the left side) and then when you hit stop there will be edits in the clip and it will have recorded your angle changes on the fly.
You can load a multicam clip into the Source monitor, turn on multicam and select an angle, then set in and out points so that you can do an insert or overwrite edit, and what goes into the timeline will still be a section of the multicam clip.

If you're trying to have two sequences open at the same time -- aka a panckae edit -- then I don't think it will work. When you load a normal timeline into the Source monitor then open that as a sequence you get a source sequence (red playhead line) that will work like Avid. But a multicam clip is different -- if you open it as a sequence you'll be getting the raw camera angles and audio (syncmap) and the multicam aspect of it will be sort of disabled. So I would do #2 -- load a mulitcam into the source and just do insert/overwrite edits.
