Edit Original not working

When I click on 'Edit Original' in Premiere it usually opens up the compostition in After Effects and I can amend it. This is not working anymore! I've searched for an answer and can't find a solution or why it's doing this.

It's even worse because I can't find the composition in AE where I thought it would be.

Are the versions of PP and AE compatible?

I'm using Premiere Pro CC 2019 and After Effects 2021. I've just tried to open After Effects CC 2019 but it's saying 'Unspecified drawing error' and won't continue from that pop-up.
