Editing on 4k footage

I have a project that I imported and linked with the 4k footage. Is there a way to scale all the footage down to 1080. I have linked the project to the original 4k footage and it is very very time-consuming. I do not want to dump all the footage to 1080 - space and time. I just want the sequences in the timeline to be working on 1080 instead of 4k footage.

Any other pointers to boost the performance of premiere while editing?

If you do what Kevin suggests forget about what I said about putting 4k into 1080 timeline and using reposition and scale options ( to zoom in and change frame composition ).

Venkatas,

You will want to create proxies for your 4K files and then you'll be working on 1080 ProRes Proxy or LT or the like. This video explains it very well, I found.

See also our documentation for full details.

Basically, right click on all your 4K clips and choose "Proxy > Create Proxies" Under format, do not select H.264, select QuickTime. Use the 1080 preset. After files are created, use the Toggle Proxies button in the timeline to toggle proxies on and off. Ping us back for any questions or details.

Yes, you do have to create entirely new files, but didn't you want to cut with 1080? There is no other way other than creating a new set of files. With proxies, you do have the luxury of a 4K export, and that is an advantage.

Thanks,
Kevin

maybe start a project at 1080p that matches 4k ( fps, etc.) and if the 4k is not DCI ( is UHD) at 16:9.. it should match perfect and you tell program monitor to " FIT" the image.

Then you can zoom in and reposition etc. withiout losing qualilty ( to 100% of orignal ).
