Effect Tab won't open and Screen goes blank

When editing projects on Premiere all tabs function as intended except for the effects tab. It was working fine until a few days ago. Now when I try to open the tab, the whole screen turns gray forcing me to have to close Premiere and reopen. I have tried restarting both my program and my computer but neither has fixed anything. Does anyone know the fix?

I'm having the same issue. I'm using the free trial to decide if I want to buy a subscription. If I can't use effects then this isn't very useful. Please HELP!

As an aside, you don't have to use the Effects workspace to apply effects.  Everything can be done in any of the workspaces.

Reset workspace. See if that will help.
