Encore crashes on import asset or import as timeline

I am a CC subscriber, with Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder and Encore.  I am running on a PC with Windows 10.  Encore has historically worked well, although 6 months ago it stopped writing directly to blank Blu-Ray disks, so I had to start creating an ISO file then burn the ISO to disk.  My problem is that as of yesterday, Encore began a new behavior of crashing every time I attempt to import encoded m2v files to create an ISO file.  Encore simply shuts down, without any error messages.  I have updated all Windows software and all Adobe software to the most recent version, and reinstalled Premiere CS6 and Encore, but Encore behaves the same.  It is the same whether opening an existing Encore project or creating a new one, and it is the same whether I "run as administrator" or just click on the Encore icon.

I have run out of ideas.  Any help out there?

If there is no workaround for this latest problem and Encore is truly dead, any suggestions on alternatives?  The only programs I can find that offer similar functionality is Sony Vegas DVD Architect for $99, and DVD-Lab from Mediachance for $49.  Seems kinda weird that Adobe would be driving longtime customers like me to a competitor like Sony, but if that is what I have to do, so be it.

Thanks for the input.  It turned out, the problem was that Microsoft released an update with a bug which they installed on my computer two days ago.  Uninstalling Microsoft security update KB4013429 solved the problem.  This update apparently made changes to a module called CompPkgSup.dll which caused any program accessing a Windows file containing media files to become unstable.  In my case that included Adobe Encore, but eventually after two full days of troubleshooting I noticed it happening with other programs such as Windows Explorer and Sony Vegas DVD Architect.

I lost two full days to this.  I am setting the internet connection on my PCs to "metered" so Windows 10 doesn't install updates without my permission.  I wait longer between updates, to let other users out there discover Microsoft bugs instead of me.

Feeling pretty frustrated, but I am uninstalling the trial version of Vegas and going back to Encore, at least for a while longer.

Ok I'm crushed for Time.  My system is doing same.  Crashes on import of an asset. Not all the time but most.  Also a new symptom is when I'm importing a Blu_ray file the video to time line the video is aspect 4:3 not 16.9.  Does this only in blu_ray mode.  DVD turns out normal.  When I create the video for DVD or Blue_ray I'm using the same Pr video I'm just changing the codec.  In my system updates I only saw  KB4015438 and I read that someone had to delete that update and another to get system to work correct.  I deleted KB4015438 but I'm still having same problem.  Help, I only have a few days to get this video out. ;(

None of the problems here involve what you are describing.

The link Doug reports at post 5 (making the new update) fixes the problem reported here.

I'm new to this forum, so I hope I'm posting in a suitable thread.

I'm using Adobe CS4 with Windows 7 Pro. Currently I can't get Encore to import a Premiere Pro project via Dynamic Link any more. They played well together last Feburary when  completed a project easily, as I had for many years. But now, Encore stalls in the import process. It doesn't crash, it just sits there. 

 

Any thoughts on why it would suddenly quit? I haven't installed any new programs, and Microsoft stopped supporting W7P before my last successful project.

 

Any suggestions on how to proceed? Is there a non-Dynamic-Link process I can use? Is there an electronic two-by-four-upside-the-head that will work? (When I had a problem with Soundbooth not doing what it was supposed to I uninstalled and reinstalled it with no improvement. So I doubt that doing this here will work any better.)

    With apologies for the selective quotation, but would definitely look into DVD-Lab Pro 2.

    It is very easy to use and you can make discs as basic or as complex as you wish to go. Menu creation is easy and can be done from externally created files (making all your backgrounds & button overlays in Photoshop and importing these into DLP, drawing your own button hot spot areas directly in the interface) or else by importing a complete PSD, or by using the menu creation tool built in. As usual I would always recommend creating all this stuff outside the authoring tool.

    It is full spec - this means you have complete access to all the programmable GPRM & system SPRM commands and everything else to go with it, and you can use pre & post commands for menus, assets & playlists. Full Scripting Support - manual coding by hand or using the code generator tools or even by direct hex coding! It is massively powerful and it just....works.

    In Premiere Pro CC 2017 your AME has the best set of tools Adobe have ever included. The video encoder is on the MainConcept engine, which is the same engine that powered CineVision or Rovi TotalCode as it became before Rovi killed off Sonic altogether and signed the death warrants of Encore, Scenarist SD/BD, TotalCode and many more although Scenarist LLC is back as an independent company again so who knows - Adobe could even get into talks with Scenarist but it probably won't happen. It doesn't much matter though, AME CC2017 has some great encoders and you can do this right out of the Premiere sequences.

    Forget burning directly from Encore either - always output to a Video_TS folder if you are on a PC.

    Download & Install IMGBurn - it is free - and configure it properly for DVD and Blu-ray burning.

    When you launch it, select the "Create Image file from files/folders" option and it will set all the parameters for you - and if a layer break is needed it will ask you to specify where it should be and gives you previews too.

    Make sure you allow it to update the IFO files and it will make an .ISO and a .dvd file. The latter is the layout file & discs can be burned with your layer break as set by simply clicking on the .dvd file with the .iso next to it.

    Same problem here.  Just started as of this morning 3/22/2017.  Got to think that an application conflict occurs  with new CC updates. Have not found a work around yet.  Also i am getting a general error now when opening older projects that opened a few days ago.  Tried cleaning cash etc and reset of preferences.  No help.

    Do you have the problem updates? The problem described in this thread is not CC related. And if so, get the new one.

    See my comments in this recent thread re "general error." It is not clear that the general error there is related to the Microsoft updates.

    Get a general error while attempting to preview a menu?

    I had to remove KB4015438  and KB4013029 to get mine back working.  However after uninstalling them when I opened Encore I got an error message that Encore could not run until it was re serialized.   Opening Premiere CC re-registers everything and now Encore is back working correctly and I can import assets.  I still get the general error message but only on older projects that would still run once the message was closed. A save and re-open gets rid of the general message.  Everything else (CC) is working so far.

    Adobe did NOT decide to stop developing Encore, they were forced to stop due to licensing

    CS6 is the final Encore, see #8 here for why http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1337952?tstart=0

    Every time Microsoft issues a Win10 update, there is the risk that an old program that HAS been working after the initial Win10 upgrade will STOP working... bottom line, old programs require a matching old operating system

    I just Googled, and there are many links on how to dual boot Win10 and an older Windows... you might want to consider setting up a Win7 or Win7 partition to dual boot, and run Encore in that partition
