Question

Export Size Too Big?

I have a 40 minute music track, and perhaps 30 to 40 images in sequence.

I am saving As H.264 and YOUTUBE 1080 29.7.

The export estimate is saying 4750mb... This seems too high? U figured it would be 250mb - ready for youtube basically??

Any ideas?

File size is essentially length times bitrate. To "shrink" the file you need to increase compression or set a lower bitrate.

  • Exact version of Premiere Pro (Help > About Premiere Pro)
    • CS6
  • Specific Operative system version and what OS, iow Windows or OSX
    • EL CAPITAN 10.11.6
  • Frame size of the source images
    • FIT TO SCREEN
  • Sequence Settings for the timeline (Sequence > Sequence Settings)
    • See pic.
  • File type of the source images, iow .jpg/.png/.psd/.tif/.gif
  • Detailed computer specification, CPU, GPU
    • 16GB ddr3 MEM, 1TB hard drive 95gb free, 2011 mac pro 13"
  • How much RAM do you have installed
    • 16gb ddr3
  • Do you have GPU Accelleration enabled in Premiere Pro or not
    • no
  • Are you exporting to the C: drive or not?
    • desktop
  • How much aviable space are left on the disc/s?
    • 95gb

95GB free space out of 1TB (1000BG) is really on the low side and can really slow down a system drasticly. Anything under 10% free space left is many times unworkable with video. You need to free up some space or export to an external USB3 or Thunderbold disc.

You should create a new Timeline and make sure that is is 1920x1080 with a Pixel Aspec Ratio of 1.0. You have 1440x1080 with a PAR of 1.333 and that will also slow down exporting when exporting from 1440x1080, 1.333 to 1920x1080, 1.0. You can just copy the material in you 1440x1080 timeline and paste it into the 1920x1080 timeline, so it´s a fast fix.

With no GPU Acceleration enable Premiere Pro must downscale the images using only CPU and that slows down as well, but you main problem is the lack of discspace.

Export it and see how big it is. The 4750mb you get is just an estimate and is often (always) wrong.

If the result is too big, lower the bitrate and consider 2-pass VBR.

Thanks, will try export now.

Last week I exported an edit with 30+ clips, and same settings, was 250mb, though these images are maybe 13mb each!

The size of the exported files has nothing to do with the size of the original files. It´s all about the bitrate you choose when exporting. Still images can be exported at a low bitrate. For stills i use 2-pass VBR and set Target to 2.3 and Maximum to 30 when i do Blu-ray´s @1080p.
