Question

Extremely difficult to move and drag transitions and crossfades.

Hey there. I am having this really annoying issue with Premiere Pro 2024, where when I try to change to change the size of, or move around a transition of some sort on an audio or video file, I find it very difficult to grab the transition and drag it around. I almost always end up moving the clip, instead of the transition.

Only the most recent update in Premiere that has added updates and changes with how audio mixing works, has this become an issue.

I am not sure if this is a problem with my computer? Or more likely, an issue with the software with recent changes.

If anyone is experiencing this, or has suggestions, let me know.

Thanks,

Operating System: MacOS Sonoma (14.5 23F79)

Premiere Pro Version: 24.4.1

Device: 2021 14" MacBook Pro

Absolutely driving me crazy! Why, why, why Adobe have you tried to make something so everyday, so basic, so "I use this every 5 minutes when I'm editing EVERY single video", into something infuriating, frustrating, impossible, inconsistent???

It slows us all down so often, so much, and causes constant issues. It actually feels like something that will be a "last straw" for Premiere... you really didn't need to give us more reasons to jump ship to Davinci or Final Cut... but honestly, this one is massive! Fix it, or you lose us...

I still cannot believe that one of THE most expensive editing software is so buggy, so problematic, so frustrating!

It feels like Adobe don't actually have video editors that test the fancy grfaphical changes they make to the user interface...  I find it difficult to believe they do... Anyone using Premiere would run into this problem within 5 minutes.
I just took 11 attempts to actually be able to select an audio transition I wanted to change the length and position of.  Incredibly, that is becoming normal now... Adobe, are you listening?

FWIW: Here's a link to the Beta forum, where you can comment on features before they are released: Premiere Beta

Yeeeeeessssss!!!! So frustrating.
Nothing is more annoying that companies tinkering with things that already work just fine.

Leave stuff alone. We'll tell you if we think things should change.

Wanna add to this topic as well that it's extremely annoying to work with this new transistion style. First they invert the colors in the timeline, now this as well. Have they never heard of, if it's not broken, don't fix it?

The same ! It is so frustrating ! Please Adobe bring back the old solid bar to click it and move it !

YES! this has been driving me mad since day 1 of v24 and I haven't seen any other posts about it.

I just got desperate and created an instagram clip to try and send to them because I'm that p*ssed off with it!!

It helps a little bit to see that other people are struggling with this as well, since I thought the whole time that I just didn't figure out "the trick" yet on how to properly select these new transitions. But of course, this is a massive problem and needs to be fixed asap, cause it's costing us so much time and nerves!

wouldnt it be great if adobe listened to our crys for help. There are still bugs that are 10 years old that get ignored with every update. I know they're a big company with a lot of people to please, but I wish they would learn from 'if it aint broke don't fix it'

Yeah, it's a nightmare now. I looked for a solution so long that I forgot the edit I was getting frustrated trying to make. It is almost unusable.

"Forgot the edit"

I thought I was the only one that did that lol

I'm also having problems with the new crossfades, and am CONSTANTLY clicking on the clip itself instead of the fade. I also can't tell when the fade is selected; it's so subtle. All the time now I'm accidentally copying and pasting an entire clip instead of just the crossfade that I wanted. The only semi-helpful solution I've found is to just make the sequence taller. Not a fan! (Also I hate the new label colors but that is a different issue.)

Right. And yes, the new label colors are so gross!

You can make your own label colors.

Same issue! And no, the little squares don't always work as needed--like when trying to slide the entire transition over, the squares select it, but I still can't easily grab it. Very frustrating. Please make it work like the previouse versions, devs! If it ain't broke...

Hey gang. I think we are all looking for the red "[" and "]" handles to appear to make our crossfade adjustments with audio. I found that at a low track height, all you have to do is grab the square "□" at the side of each clip, and it should work fine. You just have to get used to the fact that the "[" and "]" handles are not there any more, and it's just the square with an arrow cursor to trim it. It feels weird, but it seems to work for me. By the way, I did smash my head aginst the wall a hunded times before figuring it out. Cheers!   😃

That's not so much the problem, and actually, the red boxes will still appear if you get the cursor in the right place.

The problem is the crossfade is nearly impossible to "highlight." If you want to adjust the location (move left or right) or select it for rendering.

I haven't done much with 24.5, yet but started today and the fiddlyness of the crossfades is driving me nuts.

Super inconsistent behavior when trying to select the fade. The only way to reliably select the fade and not the clip or volume keyframe behind the crossfade is to click on the little square in either corner. But trying to drag around the crossfade is still infuriatingly inonsistent and dragging the little square icon extends the crossfade or adjusts the spline.

I'm not sure how the "hit box"  (to borrow a term from gaming) has been changed but I never had these problems when selecting the old opaque crossfade boxes.

Proposal:

Make any area within the crossfade (save for the edit point) activate the selection of crossfade. It should never activate the clip behind or the clip keyframe behind. I think this was the old behavior and it needs to come back. Right now its anyones guess if the crossfade will be selected or if some other part of the clip will be selected.
