Hello folks, I am trying to accomplish what I have done in the first picture in FCP but cannot seem to figure it out,, I now understand I need to use a mask like I have done below but cannot figure out how to feather it into black, in the timeline I have black as the other video source but still no luck in having it blend. Can anyone explain how I can get the video feathered like the image above?

Thanks

Correct answer Carlos Ziade

you can adjust only the amount from Edge Feather without applying a mask from there

or if you want more controls forget about Edge Feather and apply a mask from the 'Opacity' property in Motion,

then play around with Mask Feather and Mask Expansion from there.

Carlos,

Hey thanks for reply, that is getting to the effect that I want and almost there, however the rectangle mask as a oval outside..is there a way I can change that oval outside to a perfect rectangle so I can get the desired look, when I move the mask brackets it just adjusts the outside in an oval pattern. Basically if you know of a way to get the exact feather as the original picture. Getting much closer to the look I want! Thanks!

then don't use mask expansion, just put the cursor just outside and above one of the vertices of the mask, hold 'Shift'  or 'Command' (on Mac), you will see the cursor change to 2 arrows, then drag to resize the rectangle mask, and feather it.
