I recorded a video using DJI Action 2 camera and when I try to import (drag and drop) to premiere pro latest version, only the audio will get imported. I get an error message that says - File uses unsupported video compression type "vp09".
Workaround that I use on my windows machine - edit the video first using default windows editing software Clipchamp video editor and save the clip and then import it to Premiere Pro.
Premiere Pro version - 24.1.0 (Build 85)
Platform - Windows 11 home - version 23H2; OS build - 22631.3078
Premiere does not support vp09.
Need to convert first, preferably to prores.
So we are back to square one: Premiere does not support VP9.
Convert with Handbrake or Shutter Encoder and
File a feature request.

Yeah, that's a pain to convert every file. Hope Premiere Pro can fix that soon.

I FOUND A SOLUTION: put the damaged vp09 videos through media encoder and then it will convert it to an undamaged file

It doesn't work for me either. It only converts without the video so that doesn't make any sense. Please Adobe, fix this problem. Even the basic VLC player plays those videos. How can't you play a video when you're a video creation tool? I don't really get it...

Premiere is not vlc player and vlc player is not a NLE editor.

Still, the codecs are in the machine for it to understand the video format vp09. It is not the machine that does not understand the file but the Adobe program itself.
